Review: MISO

Restaurant review: MISO, Sydney, Shop 20 World Square.

Sorry not my own image, but from their own blogspot so I think it's okay to use?

Miso is a Japanese restaurant in Sydney's CBD famous for their Tonkatsu (Fried Pork) that is quite popular in Japan and Australia. I went with a friend last holidays and I'll have to say it's pretty good :)
I just had to have their famous tonkatsu dish with their light and crunchy panko coating. Here's what I got.

Very nice and filling, for me I could barely stand up after this meal. This was the Tonkatsu loin and Udon set which was $17.80, a bit pricey on my end, but definitely worth it! Also if you compare to other asian restaurants eg. Seoul Ria and Mamak the pricing is quite acceptable. I especially liked the strawberry yoghurt. Rice was...Japanese? haha I never liked Japanese rice because of it's stickiness and roundness. (I need Basmati rice)

Me with a mango smoothie which was approx. $4. $4? for a dine in it's pretty good. It was delish. The idea of 2 straws pissed me off though because the drink ran out quicker than I thought.... Good marketing trick aye?

Service was alright as staff was polite and efficient, however for the businessman next to us he waited for 10 mins after he was seated for a menu. I thought staff could of been more cheery and friendly. however, I guess you have to put the language barriers into the mix. Overall, they got the job done.

I recommend Miso to any Japanese cuisine lover looking for a more modern appeal or a bit tired from the usual sushi train.

Overall rating: 4/5

1st G-market Haul

Around last week I got my first G-market package! For those who don't know what G-market is it's like a Korean Ebay. Although I was on the English site most stores still write in Korean so it is annoying at times to click the translate page button or go on Google translate. However the site is really good and most stores offers great quality and service. you can get anything from pens to clothes to make up :)

For this particular haul my friend Angela organized it so a bunch of people can order together to get a lower shipping rate. I got Etude House's Precious Mineral Make up Essence, Baby Skin Veiling, Golden Ratio 02, tear drop liner, Smith's Rosebud Salve in the tube and EOS lip balm in Honeydew. (review links up soon so stay tuned)

Stuff was packaged real cute with complimentary oil face wipes. The Etude House products gaves me freebies too: My favourite mask Etude House moistfull and a box filled with their moistfull collagen range.
I really enjoyed my G-market experience so I shall be ordering off them myself soon! :D

Formal food- sorry not food porn!

So formal food was....disappointing actually :(  The only thing I really liked was the chocolate mousse with strawberry syrup in a heart shaped chocolate bowl? base? tart thing. Well I kept saying it was a heart shape, but others said it was just triangular =.= Out of the photos above I only got the chicken and chocolate dishes- I REALLY WANTED BEEF! The chicken was like a oven bake fillet with the usual crumb coating, but there was a slice of ham sandwiched inside! ew I hate ham. Then people on my table decided to discuss the difference between ham and bacon....and I still don't get it.0.o

VERDIT: THERE BETTER BE BETTER FOOD AT THE NEXT FORMAL!
but I'll give the dessert a 9/10 (strawberry syrup a bit too sweet)

Pre Formal Fun

IT'S ONLY A DAY TO MY FORMAL. I've been waiting for this day for 4 years, not to sound like a loser but I was very disappointed with my Year 6 formal (which consisted of hamburgers, plastic cutlery and cheap lollipops for dessert.) I hope the menu this year is good, hehe heard there's pesto chicken >.<
So to celebrate I have been going to Sydney with my friend Lily and Hazel to chill after a stressful month of exam preparations.

Lily and I got our free drinks at Macca's as it expired that day and they were handing out free samples of the new smoothies, too good, however I prefer the Bananberry one. (fellow Australians go try it)

Then we discovered HappyLemon! It's my favourite drink shop, I had this everyday in Hong Kong.
Had Cocoa with Rock Salt Cheese which both Lily and Hazel were skeptical about, but it's really nice and different! It's more like a salty cheesecake than an salty mozzarella pizza :D

 cutest interior design~ really bright.

they call out your number once your drink is made. However they were yelling mandarin for a good minute before I realized my drink was ready :S

Had cheapo lunch at DIXON'S! Got beef in black bean sauce on a sizzling plate for Lily and I to share. Mad good, but not enough rice... and the oil kept spitting on my hand..ouch

Went for karaoke and had Hazel laughing her head off at the band BUMP OF CHICKEN as I was singing Zero. (Can't wait for Final fantasy type-0)

Went back home for a manicure!!! The ladies there were nice and polite, but I wished they take off their masks as I couldn't hear half the things they were saying. I got baby pink nails and Hazel got a more Frenchy pink. As this was a first time experience I was terrified when the lady opened those sterilized bags like the ones with dental equipment. Phew thankfully just cuticle cutters and pushers. :>

Quite happy about the turn out and our Capitol Purikura in the background! Went into the machine with Marimo as the model- popteen <3

Hazel said my nails were too barbie-ish =.= oh well I wish my nails never grow out!

Had a great two days with Lily and Hazel and prepping for formal! I shall review on the food when I get back.

DISTANT WORLDS: music from Final Fantasy

A bit late but on the 15th of April I went to the Sydney Opera House for the first time to watch the Distant worlds concert ^^ I had already preordered my ticket a few months back and was really excited to go! Went with my parents which was awesome fun (mum asking ''there are 14 final fantasy games??'' and ''what's final fantasy?'') Bought a poster and a DVD, but unfortunately left poster under my seat during concert and didn't remember to pick it up T^T !!!!! but the DVD is amazing it is a recording of the concert in Japan and comes with 2 CDS and an information booklet ONLY$35. But the CD can't compare to the actually concert which was pretty much the best thing I heard this decade :D
As a Final Fantasy 13 fan i was frozen in my seat listening to ''The Promise'' and a super ''Blinded by Light.'' WELL DONE Masashi Hamauzu!!!!
A bit disappointed at the end as they did not perform ''one winged angel'' BUT then Nobuo Uematsu himself came out and it was announced that the song will be played!! was soo freakin happy~~~
Hopefully anyone else who manages to catch this concert elsewhere enjoyed it as much as I did.

CIRCLE LENS

Finally I convinced my parents to let me buy circle lens >.< I purchased mine at Panda Sparks a store based in Sydney, chatswood which also has an online shop. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000655872670&sk=wall <--- they respond the quickest here. Since they were having a clearance sale all Geo lens (excluded crazy/super size) were only $12!! I got nudy brown and blue.

Very cute!
Had these soaking 6 hours prior.
Comparision

My ugly face with nudy blue! At first I thought they looked strange, but I LIKE STRANGE!
They don't look so good here with bathroom light, but in RL they are a very electric blue that stand out.

Cute travel case with tweezers, solution bottle and lens case.
Got it from morning glory Eastwood for $5 they have many more designs.
Much better looking photo!
The nudy browns are more of a hazel green/gray but blend well with my eyes.
The nudy blues are very nice colour!
Overall I gave these a 8/10 comfort because even if it's not irritating you can tell there there all the time.
7/10 for the pattern, a bit too ''teary'' looking for me.
8/10 for enlargement. Good if you want a some ''pop'' but personally i prefer a little more natural looking.
9/10 for colour, wanted a more dark brown for my lens, but the blues were perfect <3

Hehe I'm geting into this circle lens craze now ^^ Might try EOS next >.>

Japanese cosmetic loot!

I got to go to Japan at the beginning of December for an exchange trip! Although we got a decent amount of time for shopping I only got a little make up :( It was wonderful to see so many familiar brands such as: Canmake, SANA, Shiseido, Koji, JUJU etc. but I only had a few thousand yen on me left so I picked up the one's that caught my eye the most.

On the left (clockwise): Maybeline's ''Baby lips'' chapstick, Yojiya's ''Yuzu Tsuyaya'', Shiseido's ''intergrate'' brown eyeliner and Dollywink's eyeshadow ''No. 4 GREEN PINK.

1. Maybeline's ''Baby lips''

They had 2 versions on this. One was Orange labeled ''energizing'' and this one labled ''relieving''. I went for this one just because I like green more than orange.
It has no colour, but leaves a layer on sheen on your lips. It has a really nice menthol smell and a fresh feeling in the skin. Definitely relieving. A good purchase for around 380 yen.

2. Shiseido's ''Intergrate'' brown eyeliner

Forgot how much I got this for but it was a decent price as I got it from a Lawson's. When on it's quite a soft line. Smudges easily for me on the bottom last line, but on the top it's fine.

3. Yojiya's ''Yuzu tsuyaya''

Here's the description on the back of the packaging:

''Yuzu Tsuyaya is a luxurious lip cream made with four of nature's finest oils and sericin, a natural moisture retainer. One of the oils used in this cream comes from the yuzu (Japanese lime) which is famous for its fresh fragrance.
Use Yuzu Tsuyaya and feel fresh.''

I have to admit, the description got my attention (promotion for the writer) and got me to buy it. It was around 800-900 yen. Also, my friend told me this was a famous brand so that's a plus :) (I'm such a sucker). The smell is really fresh and yummy and this balm doesn't make my lips feel slimy. It has a silky feel when applying. It feels natural and keep my lips from drying up outside. I still dislike the pot packaging though, but it gives this product a traditional ''aura''.

4. Dollywink's eyeshadow in GREEN AND PINK!

Dollywink is a branch of the brand Koji by Tsubasa Masuwaka. I bought one of it's newest products- the eyeshadow! there were 4 different types a brown one, a blue and orange one, a grey and pink one and the green and pink. I thought the green/pink one was the most fun looking so I got it, although I was debating whether to go for the most natural brown compact. Each one piece has 4 colours  to help you achieve a certain look. this one promotes a ''colourful pop'' one.

The sandy glitter didn't really show up even with 2 swipes so it is a very subtle highlighter. The blue doesn't look as bright as on the model (duh) but layering it would be the best way to go about it.However the pink was very vibrant with only 1 swipe! The glittery black was also noticeable and created a good shadow. The eyeshadow swiper doesn't distribute the product evenly, so I think I'll use my own make up brushes next time. Quite disappointed in the results I think you can achieve the pop look with a more cheaper palette. However the packaging was mega cute.
So to make this product work you just got to use a lot more product than normal. :/ Still a fun little compact!
Would not buy again.

Next time when I go to Japan I'm definitely buying more SANA & the famous Canmake blushers >.<
